Working with Traders
Unlocking the key to happier relationships for individuals and couples and offering support and coaching to those affected by abusive relationships.
What is a trading coach?
A trading coach is a professional who helps traders improve their performance in the financial markets by focusing on both the technical and psychological aspects of trading.
They guide traders in developing effective strategies, improving decision-making skills, and managing emotions like fear, greed, or anxiety that can impact trading success.
Trading coaches should possess a solid understanding of both the technical and fundamental principles of market navigation, along with a strong awareness of the impact trading can have on a trader’s life beyond the trading floor.
While a coach’s principle aim may be to improve a trader’s performance by concentrating on discipline, resilience, stress management, and decision-making, their efforts are often more effective when they take a broader, holistic approach. This includes understanding the trader’s life outside of work and how personal factors impact their professional performance. Often it is these influences that become the primary area to focus on.
How can having a coach help?
Mindset and Psychology (in the workplace)
Addressing the psychological barriers that can hinder trading success, such as emotional discipline, confidence, handling losses, and maintaining a consistent mindset.
Goal Setting and Performance
Assisting traders in setting realistic goals, monitoring performance, and improving consistency (see also reflective processes and feedback below).
Technical Skills:
Helping traders refine their trading strategies, risk management, market analysis, and execution techniques.
Personalised Reflective Processes and Feedback
Develop an agreed strategy to routinely incorporate reflective processes at the end of the work day, that will provide tailored feedback to help traders identify strengths and weaknesses, and adjust their approaches accordingly.
Mindset and Psychology (in their personal life)
A trading coach should invest time in understanding the personal dynamics and broader context of the client’s life beyond the trading screens, integrating this into a holistic approach to their collaboration ( see bridging two worlds).
Expertise Counts
A Coach With Thirty Years of Market Knowledge and Experience
Throughout my career I have always been involved in the markets and trading.
My first job in the early nineties was a trainee foreign exchange trader, I then spent many successful years as an Executive Director and the senior base metals trader in Morgan Stanley’s highly lucrative metals business.
I played a significant role in building a consistently profitable franchise, contributing to both trading and sales and enjoying many years of success. But my many years there also gave me the opportunity to work alongside and learn from some of the best and most respected names in commodities and banking.
I eventually took this knowledge and decided to work for myself, whilst using the additional time to become trained and certified in a number of coaching and therapeutic modalities. My work since then has involved including fifteen years experience trading PA, and working in an advisory capacity for organisations as a specialist trading and business consultant and coaching and mentoring individuals working in sales and trading.
I have a number of workshops planned in 2025 for coaches and therapists looking to learn how to work more effectively in this lucrative sector. Please get in touch to register your interest.
Bridging Two Worlds
Combining Areas of Expertise
As a coach, certified therapist, hypnotherapist, and hypnosis trainer, I have spent over a decade helping individuals achieve meaningful change and reach their goals. Due to my own career experiences, expertise and reputation, many of my clients have come from the banking and financial markets, particularly in sales and trading roles. Through personal experience and the evolution of this specialised work, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the interdependent dynamics between a trader’s personal and professional life, as well as the unique challenges that stem from this relationship. This insight has enabled me to craft a highly effective, holistic approach for this client demographic, combining my psychological and therapeutic skills with a comprehensive respect and understanding of their environment.
Due to the recognition I’ve gained from both clients and peers over the years in this specialised area, I now offer mentoring and training to coaches and therapists, enabling them to work more effectively with clients from sales and trading backgrounds.
